Education is the mother of leadership.
- Wendell Willkie
Education was the gamechanger for me.
I am very passionate about the content that I share and create because it has dramatically altered how I experienced teamwork and leadership in dental practice. As much as I have learned from dental practice management gurus that I have followed through the years, I have always sought after the academic or theoretical sources that support the systems or human connections that exist in dentistry. It was a gamechanger in my managerial career.
I have had the opportunity to learn from the masters and the top influencers within the field of Organizational Leadership from both historical and present eras. In essence, I have devoted 14 years to digesting and implementing learned approaches. Topics such as Vision, Communication, Structure, Strategy, Strengths, Diversity, Conflict, Change, Teamwork, and Leadership Theories (and so much more) have instructed my lens from which I view dental teamwork, patient care, and the practice as a whole. It has been a fascination and an endowment that I now "pay forward.".
WHY Your LEARNing is Important
Your practice has unique leadership challenges and team dynamics. Cookie-cutter approaches miss the mark! And, each team and leader has specific strengths, habits and patterns, communication motivations, and behaviors that affect operations. Nothing is "one size fits all," and yet, dental practice management often gets taught as if you just need to check off some boxes and the rest magically falls into place. Unfortunately, that is not the case! This is where many leaders and managers get stuck.
Managers need more than benchmarks and practice management checklists!
On your journey of personal development, the mastery of leadership skills rests on continuous improvement. With each step, you will need to forge ahead, not just in capability, but also in character. Leadership learning is not merely about directing others; it's about sculpting oneself into a catalyst for change, an architect of collaboration, and an epitome of the perseverance necessary to elevate a collective vision. You will find yourself in a perpetual cycle of growth, where the pursuit of knowledge becomes synonymous with the quest for personal excellence.
So, grab your career passport and let's get moving!
From my perspective, leadership is the one key element that many team members seek when choosing an employer. And, when good people leave our field, poor or missing leadership is also the reason they feel disillusioned and unfulfilled in the workplace. So, why not call out the "elephant in the room" and get into the leadership arena yourself?
