Well, Hello there!
I'm just a girl who recognized she didn't have the know-how to lead when she was tossed into the managerial role. I needed tools, fast.
For over 30 years, I have had the incredible opportunity to engage in many corners of the dental industry. Having begun my dental career out of high school as an enthusiastic dental assistant, I slowly transitioned into reception, administration, management, education, and consulting. It has been quite a journey! Having been tapped to take on added managerial responsibilities as I transitioned through different roles, I was challenged by the fact that I did not have any education or experience in specific areas that were suddenly considered a part of my job description: leading meetings, maximizing human resources, conflict resolution, team-building, and endless other areas. To learn more, I went to tons of conventions, local dental society meetings, watched countless webinars, and read everything I could in all the dental journals. I NEVER said no to an educational event! I also sought out all the dental practice management gurus of my day to guide me.
But I found that there is a big difference between knowing what benchmarks and trends to track for business health versus leadership knowledge and ability. I needed so much more!
So, with a husband and three kids in tow (and a full-time job in an increasingly more challenging role), I decided to go back to college! Everyone thought I was nuts and I had my moments when I believed them! But, after countless courses and sleepless nights, I finally finished my undergrad and Masters in Leadership at BIOLA University. They don't call me "firegirl" for nothing! It was a ton of work, but as I studied I implemented and integrated what I learned. I honestly could not find an area in the dental practice where leadership did not serve as a foundation. That education and implementation allowed for growth, both personally and collectively in my practice. I fervently believe that every dental professional has leadership potential and the capacity to positively influence others within their sphere. But, it does take a commitment to your personal development!
That's why I am here to share it all with you!
Now working to finish my doctorate in Leadership and having spent almost 14 years in formal education, I have amassed a unique skillset. I am hopeful that the DDS Leadership resources impress upon you the value of learning about leadership. I am confident that it will help you to grow in your personal and professional development...It certainly did in mine!
